Delta State Government Unveils New Payment Plan for Contractors

…Governor Oborevwori Highlights Importance of Orere Bridge for Riverine Communities

By Sunday Apah

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Friday stated that the state government has adopted a weekly payment schedule to ensure contractors receive their payments promptly upon submission of their certificates.

Speaking during a site visit to the Orere Bridge in Ughelli South Local Government Area, the Governor emphasized his administration’s commitment to only engaging contractors capable of completing projects on time.

“The Orere Bridge, initiated by the previous administration, is crucial as it connects over fifteen riverine communities in this region,” Governor Oborevwori stated.

“Without this bridge, access to these communities is significantly hindered. Once completed, it will greatly benefit the surrounding areas.”

He reiterated his promise to involve more indigenous contractors in future projects while also incorporating international firms.

“It’s important to support our local contractors, and while the quality of their work is generally satisfactory, I am concerned about the pace of construction. We need to see more urgency on this project,” he remarked.

Governor Oborevwori expressed discontent with the current speed of work, stressing that he expects significant progress before his next inspection, ideally in time for a final review prior to commissioning.

“The contractor has until the end of this year to show substantial results. If necessary, we may reassign some of their contracts to allow them to focus,” he explained.

He highlighted the importance of contractors managing their workload efficiently, stating, “Contractors should take on projects they can handle. If you complete your work on time, we will offer you more opportunities.

“However, for those who are underperforming and managing excessive contracts, we will revoke those contracts and reassign them to capable firms.”

Addressing previous concerns regarding payment delays, the Governor reassured contractors of a streamlined payment process.

“There are no excuses for payment issues. If you submit your certificate today, you will be paid. We operate on a weekly budget rather than monthly, ensuring timely payments.”

Governor Oborevwori added that he anticipates the inauguration of several completed projects by the time of the second-year anniversary of his administration.

“These inspections are crucial to evaluate contractor performance and ensure quality work. While I am satisfied with the standards, the speed must improve,” he noted.

Discussing the economic impact of the bridge, he said, “This infrastructure is essential for enhancing the livelihoods of local communities. It will facilitate access for farmers to transport their produce to the towns, significantly improving trade opportunities without relying on boats.”

He also inspected the 46-kilometer Ohoror-Bomadi Road, linking Ughelli North, Ughelli South, Patani, Burutu, and Bomadi Local Government Areas. “The excitement surrounding this project upon its approval reflects the community’s appreciation. This road serves not only the Ijaw people but also benefit Urhobo communities,” he added.

At the Edo Road construction site in Ughelli, where work is progressing using concrete materials, Governor Oborevwori praised the contractor for their workmanship.

He noted that upon completion, the asphalt overlay on the connecting roads would help alleviate traffic congestion in the Otovwodo junction area.

Delta State Expands Medical Facilities with New CT-Scans, Dialysis Machines

...As Governor Oborevwori Inspects Infrastructure Projects in Warri, Effurun

By Sunday Apah

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, announced on Thursday the acquisition of eight dialysis machines and CT-scans for various hospitals within the state to enhance healthcare services for residents.

During his inspection of ongoing projects in Warri and Uvwie Local Government Areas, the Governor detailed that the Warri Central Hospital will receive three dialysis machines, Asaba Specialist Hospital will obtain three, and Delta State University Teaching Hospital in Oghara will be allocated two.

“The addition of these machines is set to improve medical services across our healthcare facilities,” Governor Oborevwori stated. “We expect the machines to arrive by the end of March.”

He also mentioned that CT-scans would be arriving at the same time, adding, “We are committed to expanding the operating theater at the facilities.

“Even though this visit was primarily for project inspections, I made it a point to learn about their needs, and we are addressing those concerns, including improving the internal roads of the hospitals.”

In response to allegations regarding hospital staff requesting payments from patients under five years old and pregnant women, Governor Oborevwori clarified that the hospital’s management had denied such claims.

He however encouraged anyone facing such issues to report them through the whistleblower line he personally oversees.

“I have spoken with the Chief Medical Director of Warri Central Hospital, and she has denied these allegations. This is the first time I am hearing of patients aged zero to five still incurring costs, as such services are supposed to be free,” he explained.

“Should such situations arise, please inform us through our whistleblower line, which I personally manage.”

The Governor also inspected flood control initiatives and ongoing flyover construction projects at Enerhen Junction, PTI Junction, and DSC Roundabout, noting that residents expressed satisfaction with the developments.

“These projects are already alleviating significant traffic issues, even before completion,” he remarked.

“You can see from the community’s reactions that people are pleased with the work being done. Street credibility means little if we do not deliver outcomes that benefit the people,” he asserted. “As we progress toward completion, I am confident that traffic congestion will become a thing of the past.”

Governor Oborevwori instructed contractors to expedite the completion of the second phase of the storm drainage project, currently at 75% completion, while the third phase stands at 35%.

He also assessed the reconstruction of the Orerokpe-Okuloho-Oviri-Okpe Road and stormwater drainage at Ugolo-Okpe Junction in Okpe Local Government Area.

Delta State Government Donates Two Buses to Student Associations

By Sunday Apah

On Tuesday, the Delta State Government made a generous donation of two brand new buses—one each to the National Association of Nigeria Students/Joint Campus Committee (NANS/JCC) and the National Association of Delta State Students (NADESSTU).

The keys to the vehicles were presented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, to NANS/JCC Chairman Comrade Samson Ikpahwore and NADESSTU National President Comrade Monday Wiska during a ceremony at Government House in Asaba.

In his remarks, Dr. Emu explained that this initiative aims to support the legitimate activities and operational needs of the two student organizations.

He emphasized that the buses are intended to facilitate transportation for the associations to authorized events and urged the student leaders to ensure that the vehicles are used appropriately.

“These buses should serve the interests of NANS and NADESSTU,” Dr. Emu said. “It is important to maintain the privilege of having them provided by the state government without any abuse.”

He encouraged the leaders to act as positive ambassadors for Delta State by demonstrating good conduct and responsibility.

Dr. Emu recalled a recent courtesy call from the student leaders to the Governor, during which commitments were made to enhance student welfare.

“His Excellency encouraged you to serve as representatives of Delta State and Nigeria. You must showcase our state positively through your actions and behavior,” he stated.

The Secretary to the State Government also highlighted the role of youth in leadership today, stating, “You are not just future leaders; you are leaders of today. Your average age signifies that you are entrusted with important responsibilities. Lead your peers with integrity and purpose.”

Dr. Emu reiterated the Governor’s commitment to youth development, mentioning scholarships, bursaries, and consistent support for students’ needs. “Last year alone, we provided bursaries twice to our students. Wherever a Deltan is, Governor Oborevwori is there for them,” he added.

In their responses, both Comrade Ikpahwore and Comrade Wiska expressed heartfelt gratitude to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his administration’s dedication to the student community.

They praised the Governor for the bursary payments and the approval of funds for the accreditation of academic programs, assuring that the new buses will be put to good use.

Delta State Excels in Implementation of Criminal Justice Act

By Sunday Apah

Delta State has once again secured the top position in the implementation of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) among Nigeria’s 36 states.

This achievement underscores the state government’s commitment to judicial reform and efficient legal processes.

During a press briefing in Asaba following the official presentation of the award, the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Ekemejero Ohwovoriole, SAN, credited the accolade to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the dedicated staff within the ministry.

Their continuous efforts have been pivotal in maintaining Delta’s leading status in criminal justice implementation.

Ohwovoriole highlighted that the ministry’s initiatives align with the M.O.R.E. Agenda of Governor Oborevwori’s administration.

He attributed the state’s recognition as the best in Nigeria to significant reforms, particularly in the area of providing timely legal advice on criminal matters.

“In Delta State, we average no more than six days to offer comprehensive legal counsel on criminal issues,” he stated.

“Our goal is to ensure that those who commit crimes face justice, while also protecting the rights of the innocent to avoid unnecessary trials.”

The Attorney-General noted that the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) has undergone digital reforms to maintain accurate records of all criminal cases and convictions.

“The implementation of biometric record-keeping for criminal trials will help deter both first-time and repeat offenders,” he said.

Also, the state is pioneering virtual hearings within Correctional Centres to minimize the costs and risks associated with transporting suspects to court.

“By establishing courtrooms inside the Correctional Centres and allowing judges to conduct sessions from our headquarters in Asaba, we can expedite cases and reduce expenses.

“We’re preparing to implement this at Ogwashi-Uku and Okere Correctional Centres very soon,” he added.

Mr. Patrick Osisioma, Executive Secretary of the Administration of Criminal Justice Monitoring Committee (ACJMC) in Delta State, explained that the state was recognized as the best during the National Technical Review and Evaluation Conference (NTREC) 2.0, which assessed the ACJA’s implementation nationwide.

He shared that Delta State received a certificate of excellence, along with a plaque, laptop, and work station, congratulating the state on its impressive score of 90.9%.

This accomplishment follows Delta’s previous win in 2021, where it again outperformed other states, including Rivers, Nasarawa, Abia, Ekiti, and Bayelsa.

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, emphasized on Tuesday that ensuring the safety of lives and property is a primary focus of his administration.

He underscored the crucial link between security and long-term economic development, social stability, and overall community well-being.

During the inauguration and handover of a new criminal database and investigative equipment to the Delta State Police Command, Governor Oborevwori articulated the necessity for strong security measures to facilitate growth and stability in the region.

This initiative aims to enhance the effectiveness of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law, 2022.

The newly established data center is designed to ensure that police officers can conduct investigations, record statements, and perform interrogations with the utmost professionalism and transparency.

“This initiative demonstrates our administration’s dedication to enhancing security, justice, and good governance as part of the M.O.R.E agenda,” the Governor remarked. He reiterated, “To maintain effective policing, it is crucial to have committed personnel as well as appropriate resources and infrastructure.”

He pledged ongoing support for security agencies, providing resources and technology within the state’s capabilities.

“This data center and investigation room are just part of our efforts under the M.O.R.E agenda to advance our security, policing, and justice systems in Delta State,” he added, recalling the prior donation of 31 operational vehicles to enhance the capabilities of security agencies.

In support of the initiative, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, applauded the Attorney-General for leading the development of the new database.

He remarked on the necessity of evolving methodologies in crime management to effectively address contemporary challenges. The modern facility will allow for improved suspect processing and accurate record-keeping, essential for upholding justice.

Chief Sam Osasa, Executive Secretary of the Delta State Security Trust Fund, recognized the importance of providing law enforcement with the right equipment to combat common challenges faced in securing confessions during interrogations.

He expressed confidence that these developments will aid the prosecution of offenders and enhance real-time intelligence sharing among law enforcement agencies, bolstering crime prevention efforts.

As the Governor and police officials discussed future plans, they reiterated their commitment to maintaining Delta State as a safe and prosperous environment for all residents.

Egbema Offshore Communities, Leaders of Thought Caution Mike Tiemo Over Attacks on Doyah Tiemo

Oplus_131072

By Sunday Apah

The leadership of Egbema Offshore Communities and Egbema Leaders of Thought (ELOT) have expressed concern over Mr. Mike J. K. Tiemo’s recent malicious and misleading publications targeting Elder Edmund Doyah Tiemo.

In a statement signed by Hon. Joel Bisina and Godwin Tabuka Esq., Vice Chairman and Secretary, Egbema Leaders of Thought (ELOT), the leaders emphasized their disappointment regarding posts circulating on social media and in national newspapers that unjustly tarnish the reputation of Elder Edmund Doyah Tiemo. They alleged that these communications are being orchestrated by Mr. Mike Tiemo and his associates.

“Elder Edmund Doyah Tiemo is well-respected for his discipline, integrity, and honesty,” the statement noted. “As the current chairman of Egbe.a Opudis Host Community Development Trust Board of Trustees, overseeing Chevron Nigeria Limited’s onshore activities, it is impossible for him to interfere in matters concerning the Egbema offshore communities.”

The statement further clarified that Elder Tiemo is dedicated solely to advocating for the recognition of the offshore communities rather than seeking to become involved with them.

“It is crucial to understand that the process of securing Egbema offshore recognition is ongoing and necessitates the collaboration of all stakeholders,” the leaders reminded. “Elder E. E. Tiemo has demonstrated remarkable leadership and resource mobilization alongside other leaders to support this important cause.”

Recognized as a prominent community leader across the entire Egbema Kingdom and the Polobubor community, Elder E. E. Tiemo is known for his commitment to peace, development, and excellence in leadership.

The statement countered claims about Mr. Mike Tiemo, stating, “The 93 Egbema offshore communities have rallied behind Elder Tiemo, contradicting unfounded assertions of his rejection. It is evident that Mr. Mike Tiemo and his associates have been dismissed, leading to their baseless outcry.”

Furthermore, it was noted, “Mr. Mike Tiemo appears to be afraid, as the Polobubor community he hails from will not tolerate his questionable actions regarding offshore matters, particularly given his failure to initiate any projects in his community over the past 20 years, prior to the introduction of the Petroleum Industry Act.”

The leaders reiterated that Elder Tiemo poses no security threat to the offshore communities, instead highlighting that it is Mr. Mike Tiemo and his associates who may pose concerns due to their actions.

“Elders and leaders from Egbema communities have called upon Elder Edmund Tiemo to guide the kingdom, recognizing his experience and the respect he commands both legally and traditionally.”

“Elder Edmund Tiemo is a genuine development advocate,” the statement added. “He provides free treatments for Egbema sons and daughters every year, offers scholarships to local youth, and organizes annual empowerment programs for men and women in the Kingdom, among many other developmental initiatives.”

As a prince of the Oloduwa ruling house, Elder Tiemo does not need a royal title to uphold justice and truth within the Kingdom. He is a source of inspiration for both the youth and elders of Egbema.

The leaders also noted their awareness of the traditional authority of the Agadagba of Egbema Kingdom and the council led by Chief Tax Agbaibor, particularly in matters concerning the traditional institution.

“Mr. Mike Tiemo has yet to win any court case, and his attempts to obstruct progress in Egbema Kingdom have been noted,” they asserted, encouraging him to await the resolution of the legal matters he claims to have initiated.

The statement concluded, “Egbema Offshore Communities assert that no individual or group has the right to engage in offshore matters without the authority of the relevant community leaders. The only ‘offense’ committed by Elder Edmund Tiemo relates to upholding this principle, which has understandably caused distress for Mr. Mike Tiemo and his associates.”

“We are committed to ensuring that offshore affairs are handled by the communities rather than a select few,” it emphasized. “To stand by and allow unscrupulous individuals to manipulate the Egbema Kingdom for their own selfish interests, as exemplified by Mr. Mike Tiemo and his associates, would be a grave mistake.”

The leaders advised Mr. Mike Tiemo to offer a sincere apology to Elder Tiemo and exercise restraint regarding his criticisms of this dedicated elder statesman who is devoted to peace and progress within Egbema Kingdom.

THE EGBEMA LEADERS OF THOUGHT (ELOT) BERATE MIKE J. K. TIEMO AND URGES HIM TO BE CAUTIOUS OF ATTACKS ON ELDER EDMUND DOYAH TIEMO AIMED AT SMEARING HIS IMAGE.

The attention of the Egbema Leaders of Thought (ELOT) has been drawn to a malicious and false publication credited to some indigenes of Egbema Kingdom with the caption quoted herein below.

Ordinarily , we would not have responded to the said publication but in order not to allow the general public to be misled and misinformed, we decided to take this path to set the records straight, particularly for the benefit of the reading public, hence we react as follows:

“Warri, Delta State – A storm is brewing in Egbema Kingdom, Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State, as the Egbema Offshore Communities, in collaboration with the Egbema Communities Peace Development and Humanitarian Rights Association, have raised an urgent alarm over the activities of Mr. Edmund Doyah Tiemo and his cohorts. Comrade Mike J. K. Tiemo – Contact Committee Chairman / Community Leader, Mr. Timi David – Community Leader Mr. Oyibo Tony Onis – Community Leader, Mr. Stanley Soroghaye – Community Leader, Mr. Friday David – Community Leader and Eight other community leaders made available to Daily independent Newspaper , the Egbema Offshore Communities categorically rejected Edmund Doyah Tiemo’s self-proclaimed authority as their representative, warning that his continued interference in community affairs could lead to unrest if not urgently curtailed.”

It is disheartening to read about the post circulating on social media platforms and Leadership Newspaper wherein the image of Elder Edmund Doyah Tiemo who is passionately interested in the development of Egbema kingdom is being dragged in the mud maliciously by Mr. Mike Tiemo and his co-travellers. Nothing can be further from the truth, as will be shown in this rebuttal.

He is known for discipline, integrity, and honesty. As we all know, he is currently the chairman of Egbema Opudis Host Community Development Trust BOT, that is in charge of Chevron Nig. LTD onshore activities. Therefore, it is impossible for him to interfere or seek to become part of the Egbema offshore communities.

It must also be realised that the Egbema offshore recognition is still in the making and requires the efforts of stakeholders and leaders to work closely to achieve the needed result. It is on premise that Elder E.E Tiemo provided leadership and mobilised resources alongside other leaders to pursue the humble course.

E. E. Tiemo is an elder statesman, a successful businessman, and a community leader not just in the Polobubor community but the entire Egbema Kingdom, he is a leader per excellence, peace loving and a development oriented man.

Due to his unwavering and pristine antecedent, the 93 Egbema offshore communities made him their leader against the unfounded claim that he was rejected. It is obvious from the fact that Mr. Mike Tiemo and his co-travellers have been rejected hence this unfounded foul cry.

Mr. Mike Tiemo is afraid because the Polobubor community he came from will not condone his fraudulent activities concerning the offshore matters wherein for the past 20 years he didn’t site any single project in his community till date before the introduction of the PIA.

The elder statesman will never serve as a security threat to Egbema offshore communities except Mr. Mike Tiemo and his co-travellers. Mr. Mike Tiemo is so native and unlearned to know that the leadership that nominated him and his cohorts to serve in the committee he is still clinging to has since relieved them of their assignment because of his dubious act.

Elders and leaders of Egbema communities prevailed on the elder statesman (Elder Edmund Tiemo) to take the mantle of leadership generally in the kingdom based on his experience and track records within and outside the shores of Egbema Kingdom, as he possesses legal and traditional authority to act.

Elder Edmund Tiemo, is the real agent of development whose antecedent is unwavering. From his personal resources, he provides free medical treatment for all Egbema sons and daughters yearly, he provides several scholarships to indigenous people, less privilege, carries out yearly empowerment programs for men and women in the Kingdom and a host of other developmental initiatives.

Elder Edmund Tiemo is from Polobubor, a prince of the Oloduwa ruling house. He needs not to be a chief to ensure that justice and truth is upheld at all times in the Kingdom. He is the rallying point and a source of inspiration to both the young and old in the Egbema Kingdom.

The leaders of communities in the Egbema kingdom are not naive to the royal office of the Agadagba of Egbema Kingdom and the traditional council led by Chief Tax Agbaibor, the Toripuwei of Egbema Kingdom when the subject matter borders on the traditional institution.

Mr. Mike Tiemo, has never won any case in court except to whittle down development he is a clog in the wheel of progress in Egbema Kingdom and he is hereby advised to wait till the outcome of the court cases he claimed to have filed.

The position of the offshore communities in Egbema is very clear that no individual or group of persons have right or authority to deal on issues bordering on offshore except authorized leaders of the communities concerned, this is the only sin committed by Elder Edmund Tiemo and others that is why the message of truthfulness and justice being sent to the discerning public is making Mr. Mike Tiemo and his co-travellers panicking and jittery.

We are only committed to ensure that offshore matters will not be the estate of some individuals but the communities at all times in the Kingdom.

It will only amount to self delusion and wishful thinking for well meaning leaders of the Kingdom to stand idly and allow the fraudulently minded persons to hoodwink the Egbema Kingdom with their illicit and selfish agenda as epitomized by Mr. Mike Tiemo and his co-travellers to strive.

We advise Mr. Mike Tiemo to render an unreserved apology to his uncle and be cautious of his attacks to smear the image of the Elder statesman who is committed to peace and development in the Egbema Kingdom.

OBOREVWORI: Transforming lives through potable water supply in Delta

Oplus_131072

By Festus Ahon

Access to clean and safe drinking water is a fundamental human right; yet, many communities in Nigeria still struggle to obtain it. In Delta State, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has prioritized the provision of potable water, recognizing its vital role in public health, economic growth, and overall quality of life.

Since taking office, he has taken significant measures to enhance water infrastructure, ensuring that both urban and rural communities benefit from sustainable potable water projects.

Governor Oborevwori’s development agenda for Delta State places strong emphasis on infrastructure and social welfare, with potable water supply as a key priority.

Recognizing the challenges many communities face—including inadequate boreholes and outdated pipelines—his administration has committed substantial resources to expanding and modernizing water facilities. His goal is clear: to provide as many Deltans as possible with access to clean water, reduce waterborne diseases, and improve daily living conditions.

Through its partnership with the World Bank-Assisted Sustainable Urban and Rural Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene Programme (SURWASH), the Oborevwori administration has launched several projects aimed at improving potable water access across the state.

These include: Revamping Existing Water Schemes. Governor Oborevwori’s administration has been rehabilitating water facilities, upgrading water treatment plants, and restoring broken pipelines. In cities such as Asaba, Warri and Ughelli, old waterworks are being revived to meet growing public demand for potable water.

Expansion of water supply to rural communities which often suffer the most from potable water scarcity. To bridge this gap, the state government has initiated the drilling of solar-powered boreholes in remote areas. These boreholes are designed to provide a sustainable source of clean water, thus reducing the reliance on contaminated streams and rivers water.

So far, so many water supply schemes have either been constructed or rehabilitated across several communities and cities across the state by the Oborevwori administration. They include: Rehabilitation of water supply at Issele- Uku, construction of water treatment plant at West End Secondary School, Asaba, Osubi Secondary School, Osubi, Evwreke Primary School, Osubi, construction of solar powered water supply at Amawa Layout, Oleh, Deghele, Tebu, Gbokoda, Ajamita, Udo, Oboghoro, Boji-Boji, Agbor, Umunede, Kwale, Obiaruku, Ughelli, Owa-Ekei, Owa-Alero, and Koko.

Others are the rehabilitation of solar- powered water supply scheme at Oleh, Olomoro, Enwhe, Egbo-Igbide, Irri, Uzere, Bethel Town, Emede, Aviara, Erowha, Umeh, Owodokpokpo, Igbide, Ivrogbo, Ederhie, Araya, Okpe-Isoko, Afiesere, Uwheru, Unenurhie, Sanubi-Orogun, Ohoror, Agbarha-Otor, Agadama, Ikwegwu-Agbarho, Okpe-Orogun, Ewu, Emu-Unor, Oliogo-Umuseti, Ogo-Ikilibi, Igbe-Ogume,Ogbe-Ogume, Ogbole-Ogume, Ibrede, Umukwata, Umutu, Obinomba, Amai, Akoku, Edegbrode, Adeje, Ujovwe, Saniko, Omavovwe, Okpara-Agbarha, Oviri-Ogor, Aghalokpe, Orhokpokpo, Ewhawha, Edjegba-Agbarha, Eyara-Enwhe, Utuloho-Aviara, Okpare-Aviara, Emu-Obodeti, Umuseti-Ogbe, Umuse-Deli, Amoji, Lagos-Ogbe, Utagba-Ogbe, Utagba-Unor, Mereje, Okwuabude, Oviri-Okpe, Umiaghwa, Gudu-Gudu, Unurie-Aghalokpe, Ughwagba, Ghana Quarters, Obiaruku, Imiroje, Edjekemevor, among others.

Speaking during one of the inspection visits to the projects, the State Commissioner for Water Resources, Dr Isaac Wilkie, lauded Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his support leading to the massive transformation of the state’s water sector.

He said the purpose of the inspection was to ensure that all errors observed were put together and rectified, adding that the state government was pursuing a tripartite power supply system through solar, generator and public power supply, to ensure continuous potable water supply across the state.

However, recognizing that government resources alone might not be sufficient, the Oborevwori administration is engaging private sector players to invest in water infrastructure. These partnerships with NGOs and international agencies are helping to fund projects and ensure long-term maintenance of water supply facilities.

Beyond providing infrastructure, the government is also enforcing policies to ensure proper water management. Agencies responsible for water distribution are being restructured to improve efficiency, while communities are being sensitized on the importance of water conservation and hygiene.

The impact of these water sector initiatives extends beyond just providing clean drinking water; improved access to potable water is reducing the incidence of diseases such as cholera and typhoid, which are often linked to contaminated water sources.

Additionally, women and children, who typically bear the burden of fetching water from distant locations, now have more time for other productive activities, including education and income-generating work.

Despite these strides, climate change, population growth, and funding constraints pose ongoing threats to water security.

However, Governor Oborevwori remains steadfast in his vision, continuously seeking innovative solutions to sustain water availability in the state. His administration is also looking into advanced water treatment technologies and enhanced monitoring systems to ensure quality and reliability.

Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to potable water supply is transforming lives in Delta State. Through strategic investments, policy reforms, and community engagement, his government is laying the foundation for a future where every Deltan has access to clean, safe water. While challenges persist, the progress made so far is a testament to his dedication to improving the well-being of his people. With sustained efforts and collaboration, Delta State is on the path to achieving lasting water security.

…Says his administration responds to critics with projects

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, within the week, said that his administration would continue to respond to criticisms with verifiable projects that are positively impacting the lives of Deltans.

He noted that there had been a few members of opposition political parties in the state who were only functional on social media platforms, adding that “Deltans are aware of the projects executed by his administration in their localities and appreciate what his administration is doing for them”.

Represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, Oborevwori spoke on Thursday during the inauguration of Boji-Boji Owa Mixed Modern Market, Ika North-East Local Government Area of Delta State.

He said, “the few members of the opposition political parties are only making noise on social media; our people are seeing and enjoying the projects we have executed in their communities. It is good that with verifiable projects, we are responding to our critics.”

Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Wednesday, called for the effective redesign of academic curricula for graduates to have the technical know-how to be job and wealth creators.

He made the call at the 4th Founder’s Day Celebration of the University of Delta, UNIDEL, Agbor, Delta State.

Represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, Governor Oborevwori said; “quality, functional education is one of the priority areas of the MORE agenda of my administration. We believe that education is not merely about imparting knowledge; it is also about shaping character, fostering creativity, and equipping the students with the right skill-sets and mindsets that they need to excel in the global marketplace.

“The major drawback of our current educational system is that it prepares the graduates for salaried employment.

“As a government, we are determined to reverse the course by ensuring that technical and vocational education feature prominently in the academic curricular of our educational institutions, beginning from primary school; it is my earnest expectation that UNIDEL will ensure that the academic curricular is such that graduates from here will have the knowledge and technical know-how to be job and wealth creators.”
