Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has called on Nigerians to recognize the importance of unity and peace as essential elements for the country’s growth and development.
The governor made this statement during the thanksgiving service held in honor of the State Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, in celebration of his 60th birthday at St. Phillips Anglican Church in Asaba on Sunday.
In his remarks, Governor Oborevwori praised Onyeme for his medical outreach efforts in conjunction with the celebrations and expressed optimism for the nation’s future, contingent upon collective peace and collaboration among its citizens.
“Today, we gather to honor a dependable and loyal brother, our dedicated Deputy Governor. It’s heartening to see you come to church first to express gratitude to God before the celebrations begin,” he stated.
He continued, “All your achievements are a testament to God’s grace. I appreciate your initiative to conduct a medical outreach that has positively impacted lives. God will reward you for prioritizing the welfare of the people.”
Oborevwori highlighted Onyeme’s unwavering loyalty, stating, “Your commitment is not merely 99 percent but a full 100 percent, and I am truly grateful for your support. Working alongside you as my deputy is a source of joy.
“As we celebrate you today, we also honor the values you represent: hard work, integrity, and the pursuit of excellence. Your contributions to Delta State have been significant, and I am confident that you will continue to offer even more.”
He emphasized the need for unity among the people, stating, “This is a moment for all Deltans and Nigerians to reflect on the significance of unity. Together, we can cultivate a common good that benefits us all.”
“Let us support one another in our endeavors for progress and uphold the ideals that will elevate our state and nation. A bright future awaits us when we commit to selfless service, as exemplified by Onyeme. I pray that God continues to bless you with joy and strength in your service to our people.”
On security issues, Governor Oborevwori mentioned, “Our service chiefs are here, and we collaborate closely. Incidents that occur in other states are not a reflection of our situation here; many reports are exaggerated, but we remain committed to making improvements.”
Ven. Felix Okonkwo, the Archdeacon and Vicar of the church, delivered a sermon emphasizing the importance of thanksgiving as an expression of gratitude to God for His blessings.
He noted, “Thanksgiving can also serve as a forward-looking expression, anticipating God’s future blessings.” He described Onyeme’s political journey as a manifestation of divine favor, asserting that “appreciating God for past blessings opens doors for more to come.”
During the service, Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme and his wife, Ezinne Catherine, read the first and second lessons, respectively. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Bayelsa Deputy Governor Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, Senator Dr. Akon Eyakenyi (Akwa-Ibom), and Samuel Ode (Benue), along with former Governor Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, Speaker of the State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, Chief Solomon Arenyeka, and members of both the National and State Houses of Assembly.
