During a press conference in Asaba on Thursday, Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Aniagwu, emphasized that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is actively collaborating with the Federal Government to foster comprehensive development within the state.
Aniagwu explained that the administration is committed to enhancing engagement with relevant government bodies at various levels to advance the M.O.R.E Agenda.
He stated, “Our aim is to strengthen our partnerships with federal agencies, from the Presidency down, to ensure that Delta maximizes the benefits available to us. Ultimately, we wish to enhance the quality of life for our citizens.”
He noted that the state has already begun to see benefits from this collaborative relationship, citing the recent concessioning of the Benin-Onitsha Expressway as a key achievement.
“This development will significantly improve transportation along that route, and we fully support this initiative. Our administration is dedicated to making this road more navigable in the near future.”
Referring to a recent event, Aniagwu mentioned that the Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, and Governor Oborevwori joined forces on the initiative, showcasing the strong bond between the state and federal governments.
“We understand the importance of having a cooperative spirit, especially with our current President, and we are committed to ensuring our nation’s effective functioning.”
He stressed the importance of unity in overcoming challenges, asserting that any difficulties experienced at the national or state level could hinder development.
“We want to see progress in all areas of the country, particularly under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Our collaboration has now led to the continuation of the 17.5 km alignment that links the Second Niger Bridge to Issele-Azagba.”
Aniagwu also highlighted the recognition from the Minister of Works regarding Governor Oborevwori’s efforts in infrastructure improvement and human capital development.
“Our governor has prioritized the security and welfare of our people, as outlined in Section 14, Subsection 2, Paragraph b of the 1999 Constitution. We are grateful for the support from the Minister and the President as we anticipate more projects in the future.”
In response to a viral video involving nursing students during the First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu’s visit, Aniagwu clarified the situation, stating that the video misrepresented the event’s proceedings.
“Senator Tinubu’s visit was a productive working trip, not merely a holiday, and many significant contributions were made during her time with us.”
He explained that over 10,000 medical kits were distributed across the South-South region, with Delta serving as a pivotal point.
Expanding on the situation, Aniagwu acknowledged the misunderstanding among the nursing students present.
“The First Lady did not visit the School of Nursing in Agbor. While the attendees expressed disappointment regarding the distribution of medical kits, she reassured them that their turn would come through the Renewed Hope Initiative.”
Despite the disappointment, he clarified that no hostility arose during the event. Initially, participants were enthusiastic, welcoming the First Lady.
While a few nurses expressed their feelings humorously in song, these reactions were mischaracterized on social media.
“The viral video does not accurately reflect the atmosphere or the genuine interactions that occurred during the gathering.”
Concluding the press conference, Aniagwu reiterated the government’s appreciation for the First Lady’s visit and the positive initiatives she introduced. He emphasized,
“The reaction captured in the viral video came from a small group and does not represent the sentiments of the entire nursing community.
We are committed to good governance in Delta and dedicated to improving the lives of our citizens through the M.O.R.E Agenda.”
