Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, expressed confidence on Friday that his critics, who questioned his educational credentials during the 2023 election campaign, have been effectively silenced.

This statement came during a visit from the Executive Committee of the Ambrose Alli University (AAU) Alumni Association, which was held at Government House in Asaba.

Governor Oborevwori remarked, “There were individuals determined to damage my reputation, asserting that I had never attended school.”

He emphasized that the presence of the AAU alumni representatives served as further confirmation of his academic achievements.

“I am deeply honored to receive the Hero Award and the Award of Excellence from you. I truly appreciate this recognition,” he stated.

Reflecting on his time at Ambrose Alli University, he shared, “During the political campaign, false claims were made about my education. In politics, such blackmail is not uncommon.

“But I completed a full-time program at AAU, graduating with a Second Class Upper degree. Although I was a quiet student, my classmates from Ekpoma continue to support me today.”

He also highlighted his Master’s degree from Delta State University, noting, “I was among the pioneer students in that program, and I hold it in high regard. The university stood by me during legal challenges, which astonished even my opponents.”

Laughing at those who doubted him, he reminisced about the challenges he faced as a student: “Back then, we had to search for water just to shower before classes. It seemed tough at the time, but we’ve all since thrived thanks to our education at Ekpoma.”

Governor Oborevwori took pride in being the first governor from Ambrose Alli University and expressed gratitude for the alumni community’s support, pledging his personal donation to assist with the university’s ongoing building project.

Earlier, Dr. Clifford Omozeghian, President of the AAU Alumni Association, informed the Governor of their visit’s purpose: to affirm their support for his administration.

He highlighted the numerous accomplishments of AAU alumni and pointed out Governor Oborevwori as a shining example of their successes in politics.

Dr. Omozeghian also noted the university’s urgent need for infrastructure improvements and announced the association’s initiative to construct a Computerized Examination and Records Building, which will enhance the efficiency of processing results and certificates.

He revealed that the project, estimated to cost approximately 500 million naira, is already underway.

In light of the Governor’s achievements, Dr. Omozeghian stated, “As the first Executive Governor to emerge from the Ambrose Alli University Alumni Association, we will continue to celebrate this outstanding accomplishment.”

He concluded by presenting the Governor with both the Hero’s Award and the Award of Excellence, acknowledging his significant impact on the university and the community.
