Residents of Ajaji Layout, formerly known as Bonsaac in Asaba, have received reassurance regarding Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s commitment to providing essential social amenities for the area’s growing population.
During a visit to Ajaji Layout on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, conveyed this message on behalf of the state government.
Accompanied by the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Juliet Aboloje, and other senior officials, Izeze promised to relay the community’s challenges to the Governor for prompt action.
“Our esteemed Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, who recently received the accolade of THISDAY Governor of the Year 2024, is genuinely committed to the welfare of the people.
“As you noted in your communication, we have come to engage with you and understand the issues at hand.
“Our role is to proactively identify these challenges and bring them to the attention of the Governor, and we assure you that we will fulfill this commitment.
“You have mentioned that our Governor oversees a performing government. When he hears the concerns of the community, you can be confident that you will see results in due time.”
Earlier, Comrade Ifeanyi Francis, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Ajaji Layout, expressed gratitude for the government’s swift response.
He highlighted the urgent need for improved infrastructure, including roads, a reliable drainage system, and access to primary and secondary education and healthcare services.
“Our devoted Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has always been attuned to the needs of the people. We are thankful for the visible progress he has made, not only in Asaba but also in Warri and beyond.
“Your visit today is significant as we have been granted the opportunity to discuss our needs. This is a meaningful day for our community, and we sincerely hope our Governor will heed the calls for improved roads, drainage, schools, and other vital services.
“We also urge the establishment of educational institutions in our area, as the lack of both primary and secondary schools is a pressing concern.
“We are in need of a police post and better healthcare facilities, including a hospital or maternity center. The visit from the Asagba has given us renewed hope and confidence that our requests will be communicated to the Governor.
“We are grateful for this engagement. Additionally, we seek attention for a pedestrian bridge, as the current situation poses challenges for our community.
“With over 100,000 residents, the daily commute, especially for children heading to school across the road, raises important security concerns.
“The well-being and safety of our children and the local business community are paramount.”
