…As Delta North PDP Stalwarts Pass a Vote of Confidence in Oborevwori

By Sunday Apah

The Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme, has stated that Delta North remains the “bride” of the party in the state, advising members in the district to jealously guard the party and maintain its dominance.

The Deputy Governor made this known during a meeting of elected and appointed political office holders from the Delta North Senatorial District on Thursday. He also passed a vote of confidence in the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.

At the meeting—which was summoned and presided over by Deputy Governor Onyeme—the people of Delta North, also known as Anioma, expressed satisfaction with the even distribution of projects by Governor Oborevwori’s administration across the state.

The meeting was held at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba.

The motion was moved by the member representing Ika Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, who took into account the achievements of Governor Oborevwori, particularly the ongoing 500 road projects across various parts of the state, the inspection of projects to ensure value for money, and the prompt payment of salaries, among others. These achievements culminated in the winning of the ThisDay/Arise TV Governor of the Year Award for 2024.

The motion was seconded by the Majority Leader of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Emeka Nwobi, and was put to a voice vote by the Deputy Governor, where it was adopted by the participants.

Addressing the gathering, Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme emphasized that all elected and appointed officials of the state government are ambassadors of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), hence they must promote the policies and programs of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration.

He stated that their election and appointment are platforms to serve humanity, the PDP, and Delta State, noting that Delta North remains the bride of the party and that members should jealously guard the party and maintain its dominance.

Sir Onyeme urged leaders to stay connected with the grassroots and ensure that members are not dissuaded by opposition parties that have nothing to offer except lies.

“Delta North should remain the PDP-dominant Senatorial District. We must consolidate our position as the main determinant for all elections in Delta State.

“As we approach the end of the second year of this administration, our focus should be on doubling our efforts. We should always highlight and project the government’s achievements in everything we do, everywhere we go, and at every occasion because this administration has done so much for Deltans.”

The Deputy Governor also advised Local Government Council Chairmen to properly engage with the grassroots by complementing Oborevwori’s More Agenda by embarking on projects that add value to the lives of the people.

He encouraged PDP leaders to initiate various forms of empowerment programs and directed the PDP senatorial and local government chairmen to ensure their attendance at party activities and meetings.

Sir Onyeme highlighted the need for elected and appointed officials to regularly visit the wards and council areas, urging council chairmen to abandon the habit of remaining in Asaba.

Other speakers included the State Deputy Chairman of the PDP, Elder Moses Iduh; PDP Delta North Senatorial Chairman, Chief Dan Ossai; the member representing Ika Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Victor Nwokolo; Majority Leader of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Emeka Nwaobi; Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu; Chairman of Oshimili North Council, Hon. Innocent Esewezie; and Chief Strategist to the State Government, Dr. Festus Okubor, among others.

They also emphasized that Delta North will remain a stronghold of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and resolved that legal processes should be initiated to retrieve the Senatorial mandate of the PDP from Prince Ned Nwoko, who has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

No fewer than 500 persons attended the meeting held at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba, Delta State.
