Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, called on elected and appointed officials to prioritize the welfare of the people above their personal interests during a meeting with the newly elected executive of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Delta State Chapter, led by Bishop Abos Willie, at the Government House in Asaba on Wednesday.
Governor Oborevwori emphasized that a lack of reverence for God contributes to some public figures placing their own interests above the collective needs of the community.
He expressed that the achievements of his administration over the past 19 months were a result of divine guidance and providence, assuring he would continue to center governance around spiritual values.
He congratulated the new PFN executive members on their election success, expressing his commitment to collaborate with them to further the MORE Agenda of his administration.
“First, I want to extend my congratulations to the new executive members of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Delta State Chapter. We are thankful to God for the progress we’ve made so far,” he stated.
“Through divine wisdom, we have managed to allocate resources judiciously to address competing needs and make sound decisions. As a government, we hold firm to our reliance on God for guidance to effectively implement the initiatives outlined under the MORE Agenda.”
Oborevwori, a member of the Living Faith Church, expressed confidence that collaboration with the Christian community would lead to success.
“It’s essential to remember that we are elected or appointed to serve the interests of the people, not our own. Prioritizing public welfare is key to achieving success. When personal interests take precedence, failure often follows.”
He highlighted various initiatives underway in Delta State meant to improve the lives of residents at the grassroots level, reiterating his administration’s commitment to engage with relevant stakeholders to advance the state.
The Governor also urged the PFN and the broader church community to continue praying for the state and nation, highlighting the need for divine intervention to address existing challenges.
Earlier, Bishop Abos Willie, Chairman of the Delta State PFN, acknowledged the visit as an opportunity to introduce the new executive while also congratulating the Governor on his recent accolades as Governor of the Year by ThisDay Newspaper and Arise Television.
He reminded the Governor of the importance of maintaining a zero-tolerance policy toward subpar projects, asserting this stance would help eliminate the prevalence of project abandonment in the state.
The Bishop outlined his administration’s focus on the values of the Holy Bible, religious harmony, integrity in Christianity, and the significance of being born again, appealing for the state government’s support to achieve these goals.
