Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has invited Swedish investors to explore the rich investment opportunities in the state, emphasizing its peaceful atmosphere, strategic location, and abundant natural resources.
The Governor made this appeal during a courtesy visit from the Swedish Ambassador to Nigeria, Annika Hahn-Englund, and her delegation at the Government House in Asaba on Tuesday.
Highlighting the state’s vast crude oil and gas reserves, Governor Oborevwori assured potential investors of the favorable returns that await them in Delta.
“Delta State is recognized for its peacefulness and is one of Nigeria’s key producers of the crude oil that fuels the nation,” he remarked.
“We are open for business, offering a welcoming environment for investment.”
He further elaborated on the state’s accessibility, noting, “Delta State boasts three airports: Asaba International Cargo Airport, Osubi/Warri Airport, and Escravos Airport, which supports the coastal oil terminal.”
The Governor expressed optimism that the Ambassador’s visit would strengthen the ties between Delta State and the Swedish government. “Since 1961, Nigeria has enjoyed a diplomatic relationship with Sweden.
“Your presence here today signifies a commitment to fostering deeper connections and encouraging investment in Delta State.”
Governor Oborevwori also pointed out the state’s special economic zones, which include the Kwale Free Trade Zone, Koko Free Trade Zone, and Ogwashi-Uku Agro Industrial Park, offering incentives such as tax holidays and duty-free import and export opportunities.
“We strive to make the process of doing business in Delta as seamless as possible,” he stated, urging the Ambassador to relay this message to Swedish companies looking for profitable ventures.
In her remarks, Ambassador Annika Hahn-Englund congratulated Governor Oborevwori on receiving the Governor of the Year award from ThisDay Newspaper and Arise Television. She expressed her enthusiasm for visiting Delta State to promote trade and investment.
Ambassador Hahn-Englund noted that Sweden and Nigeria have maintained diplomatic relations since 1961, and her visit aimed to strengthen these ties.
“There is a strong foundation for collaboration, as highlighted by visits from high-level Swedish officials last year.
“It’s vital for us to develop connections with prominent states like Delta to enhance our networks and knowledge,” she explained, adding that several Swedish companies operating in Nigeria focus on sectors such as ICT, infrastructure, telecommunications, energy, and transportation.
