On Thursday, Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, announced plans to decentralize the State Direct Labour Agency (DLA) in an effort to enhance road maintenance practices throughout the region.

The governor made this statement during a three-day retreat titled “Repositioning the Delta State Direct Labour Agency for Better Performance in line with the M.O.R.E Agenda of the Oborevwori Administration,” taking place at the Mariam Babangida Leisure Park in Asaba.

In an impromptu visit to the retreat, Governor Oborevwori highlighted that the decentralization of the DLA is integral to his administration’s strategy for successfully implementing the M.O.R.E Agenda, particularly in regards to road infrastructure.

“I came here today unexpectedly to observe the important work you are doing, and I am delighted to see such commitment,” he said. “I believe the initiatives you’re discussing will have a meaningful impact on our state, as there is much work ahead of us.”

He reassured participants that their discussions, especially on decentralizing the DLA, would be taken seriously and thoroughly considered.

The Delta State Direct Labour Agency was established to serve as an intervention agency focused on maintaining and repairing damaged roads statewide.

The retreat aims to equip the agency’s personnel, led by Director-General Engr. Emmanuel Ighomena, with the skills necessary to modernize operations and better serve the community.
