Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, stated on Sunday that significant improvements in infrastructure are expected in the state by 2025.
During a project inspection in Asaba and its surrounding areas, the Governor expressed his commitment to actively oversee the inspection and inauguration of various development projects this year.
While visiting the site of the proposed Asaba International Market, Governor Oborevwori emphasized the importance of firsthand evaluations of ongoing projects.
“We cannot simply remain in our offices approving initiatives; it’s essential that we assess the progress of these developments in person,” he stated.
Following a church service, the Governor made an unplanned visit to the Asaba International Market.
He shared that groundbreaking for the project is set to take place within the month, although construction has already been authorized to commence.
“This market initiative is part of our broader efforts to enhance the capital territory’s appearance.
“We are actively touring the city to ensure it is well-maintained and visually appealing,” he added.
The Governor noted that many roads in the area are overdue for repairs, citing that regular maintenance is a practice observed in many developed countries.
“We will not only work on road maintenance but will also construct new roads to give Asaba a fresh look,” he said.
He also addressed the relocation and redevelopment of the former Abraka Market, highlighting the government’s initiative to shift it to Oko and collaborate with Efab Properties Limited for its development.
“The state government will receive 20 percent of the proceeds since we are providing the land, which is a beneficial arrangement,” he explained.
Governor Oborevwori also inspected several completed and ongoing infrastructure projects, including Gerald Onianwa Crescent and Odigwe Juwa Avenue, as well as storm drainage systems behind the Asaba Specialist Hospital and other road networks within Oshimili South Local Government Area.
