Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborowevri has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the Military and other security agencies in their operations throughout the state.
The governor made this statement on Tuesday during the launch of the 2025 Emblem Appeal Fund, held at the Unity Hall of the Government House in Asaba.
Represented by the Commissioner for Finance, Sir Fidelis Tilije, Governor Oborowevri honored both current and fallen heroes of the Armed Forces, acknowledging their significant contributions to maintaining peace and safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
“I extend a warm welcome to everyone at the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem Appeal Fund Launch, which honors our dedicated military heroes and the legionnaires who have made great sacrifices to defend and uphold the unity of our nation,” he remarked.
“This occasion allows us to remember and express our appreciation for the courageous officers and enlisted personnel who have paid the ultimate price in the pursuit of peace and unity for the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
The governor continued, “On behalf of the Delta State government and its citizens, I pay tribute to our fallen heroes who lost their lives in World Wars I and II, the Nigerian Civil War, and peacekeeping missions globally.”
He also recognized the current servicemen and women of the Nigerian Armed Forces, who risk their lives daily in the fight against insurgency, terrorism, and banditry, stating that they exemplify the true spirit of patriotism.
“We must continuously respect and honor our servicemen and women for their crucial role in maintaining our national integrity. They deserve this recognition. As one of our elder statesmen said, keeping Nigeria united is a vital undertaking that must be pursued.”
Highlighting the fourth pillar of his administration’s M.O.R.E. agenda—enhanced peace and security—the governor assured that the state would continue to collaborate and provide essential support to the Nigerian Armed Forces and allied security agencies in their operations.
He called upon the private sector and compassionate individuals to generously contribute to the Emblem Launch to support both fallen and active military personnel.
“Before we officially launch this emblem, I urge the private sector and all well-meaning individuals to give wholeheartedly in support of the Nigerian Legion, Delta State Chapter,” he said. “When approached by members of our Armed Forces or their representatives for assistance, please demonstrate your support in public places like airports and on the streets.”
The governor instructed all Local Government Council Chairmen to initiate the 2025 Armed Forces Emblem launch within their respective areas, also stressing the importance of effectively utilizing the funds generated.
“I appeal to the state chapter of the Nigerian Legion to ensure that the proceeds from this launch are used appropriately and for the intended purposes,” he added.
Earlier in the event, Mr. Ojei Boniface, Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Delta State Chapter, expressed gratitude to the governor for his support towards the Legion as part of the M.O.R.E. agenda. He requested further assistance in terms of empowerment initiatives and land allocation for commercial agriculture, aimed at enhancing food security and generating revenue for the Legion.
Prominent figures who participated in launching the emblem alongside the governor included the Deputy Governor, Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Chairman of the Traditional Rulers Council, and the 63 Brigade Commander of the Nigerian Army, among others.
