Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, urged parents on Sunday to invest more time in the upbringing of their children as a vital solution to the growing issues of crime and social unrest in the nation.

The Governor made this appeal during his address at the dedication ceremony for Baby Tamara Guwor, the daughter of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, held at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Redemption Hall, located on Airport Road in Warri.

“I am delighted to be here for the second time,” Governor Oborevwori stated. “I am a person of my word and when I make a commitment, I follow through. Therefore, concerning the issue of streetlights, consider it addressed.”

He continued, “Today marks a significant event, as we gather to celebrate the dedication of Tamara Emomotimi Guwor. Baby dedications serve as an important foundation for upbringing, as dedicating a child to God is a powerful step in setting their future on the right path.”

“The ceremony represents a dual blessing, where parents pledge to nurture their children with love, faith, and the right values,” he added, emphasizing the importance of the occasion.

Governor Oborevwori also expressed his gratitude that the ceremony did not include a reception, reflecting the belief among the community that spiritual celebrations hold deeper significance than social gatherings.

“I believe the spiritual blessings that come from dedication and marriage hold more weight than physical receptions.”

He expressed concern about the excessive spending on receptions, encouraging people to invest those resources in the House of God, which he believes will yield greater blessings.

During the service, the Governor congratulated Dr. Dennis Otuaro, the Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Program, and pledged his administration’s support to ensure his success in the position. “This is a significant milestone, as it’s the first time a Deltan has held this office, and I am committed to assisting him in serving the Niger Delta effectively.”

Pastor Olaitan Olubiyi of RCCG Delta Province 5 expressed gratitude toward Governor Oborevwori for his prompt action in addressing the church’s request for improvements on Bright Hope Street and drainage systems to alleviate flooding issues in the area.

He also commended the Governor for his compassionate support of widows, orphans, and the disadvantaged.

During his sermon titled “The Everlasting Arms of the Caring God,” Pastor Olubiyi spoke about God’s grace, justice, and daily expressions of love for humanity. He encouraged Christians to embrace God’s kindness to positively influence their lives.

The dedication ceremony was attended by notable figures including Governor Oborevwori’s wife, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme and his wife Catherine, Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Arthur Akpowowo, Member of the House of Representatives Hon. Thomas Ereyitomi, and Dr. Dennis Otuaro, among other esteemed guests.
