Oborevwori Celebrates Okonjo-Iweala’s Reappointment as WTO Director-General

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has extended his heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on her recent reappointment as the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO) on Friday.

Dr. Okonjo-Iweala, an esteemed native of Ogwashi-Uku in Delta State, previously served as Nigeria’s Finance Minister twice and played a pivotal role in steering the country’s economy away from foreign debt during her first term under former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

In a statement released on Friday through his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Governor Oborevwori expressed gratitude to the stakeholders of the WTO for recognizing Okonjo-Iweala with a second term following her initial appointment in 2021.

The Governor highlighted Okonjo-Iweala’s outstanding career, emphasizing her expertise in economics and international development, particularly in the areas of economic reform, poverty alleviation, and global trade, which have earned her significant accolades and respect.

“On behalf of my family, the Government, and the people of Delta State, I congratulate Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, a remarkable representative of Delta and Nigeria, on her reappointment as Director-General of the World Trade Organization.

“Your selection is a true testament to your expertise and competence as a distinguished economist and expert in international development.

“The unanimous nature of your reappointment speaks volumes about the dedication and hard work you demonstrated during your first term.

“We pray that as you continue this extraordinary journey, you will carry forward your mission of bringing pride and honor to Delta State and Nigeria,” Governor Oborevwori stated.
