On Thursday, Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, paid tribute to the late Olorogun Taleb Tebite, the Executive Director of Projects at the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC).
He characterized Tebite as a compassionate leader who consistently put the needs of others before his own.
At the funeral service held at All Saints’ Anglican Cathedral in Otor-Iwhreko, Ughelli, the governor noted that the significant turnout highlighted the generosity and dedication of the late Tebite.
He encouraged the grieving family to find comfort in the knowledge that their father, a former member of the State House of Assembly, led a life filled with meaningful accomplishments dedicated to both God and society.
“The congregation is a testament to the love people had for this remarkable man,” Oborevwori stated. “While some may rejoice in the passing of others, what truly matters is how you are remembered for your contributions to the lives of those around you.”
Reflecting on Tebite’s legacy, the governor said, “Today, we gather to celebrate the life of a genuine public servant, a dedicated politician, and a beloved brother.”
He continued, “Although our hearts are heavy with sorrow, we take solace in the words of Psalms 34:18, which remind us that the Lord is close to the brokenhearted.”
Describing Tebite as a long-time political ally and a true friend, Oborevwori emphasized his courageous spirit and unwavering commitment to service.
“His passing is a profound loss not only for his family but also for his friends, associates, and the broader community who admired him,” he said. “Taleb was a generous soul, always willing to lend a helping hand.”
In reflecting on the essence of life and legacy, the governor urged everyone to consider how they wish to be remembered. “As we ponder this, let us examine our own lives and actions, because when our time comes, we too will confront the reality of our mortality.”
Though saddened by Tebite’s untimely passing, Governor Oborevwori reminded all present that a life well-lived is meant to be celebrated. “Your father had a profound impact on many, and his legacy of love and kindness will inspire us all,” he assured the grieving family.
He concluded by encouraging friends and supporters of the deceased to offer ongoing prayers and support to Tebite’s family in their time of need. “As we say our final goodbyes, let us pray for comfort for his immediate family and all who mourn him. May he rest in peace.”
During the service, Archbishop of Bendel Province, Anglican Communion, Most Rev’d Cyril Odutemu, echoed the sentiments of the governor, praising Tebite for his selflessness and commitment to serving others. He reminded attendees to live righteously and seek the ways of the Lord to stand firm during life’s ultimate judgments.
The late Taleb Tebite, who passed away at the age of 64, hailed from Okpare-Olomu in the Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.
