Army Arrests Suspected Kidnappers, Armed Robbers in Delta

Troops from the 63 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have apprehended four persons suspected of armed robbery, kidnapping, and gunrunning in Asaba, the capital of Delta State.

In a statement issued by Major Emmanuel Onoja, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, on Sunday, October 20, 2024, it was reported that several firearms and ammunition were confiscated from the suspects.

According to the statement, “In a deliberate and sustained effort to rid the region of all forms of criminality, the gallant troops of the 63 Brigade, while on routine patrol at approximately 10:30 PM on Saturday, October 19, 2024, arrested four suspects.”

The individuals were apprehended in a tricycle, commonly known as Keke NAPEP, with registration number ASB 991 VC DELTA, near Nwanwolo Market behind Asaba Specialist Hospital.

The suspects have been identified as Mr. Abila Luka, Mr. Solomon Yaknam, Mr. Sunday Emma, and Mr. Haruna Garba.

They were en route to an undisclosed location for their illicit activities when intercepted.

“Items recovered from the suspects include one AK-47 rifle, one Beretta pistol, 32 rounds of 7.62MM special ammunition, one round of 9MM ammunition, two cartridges, one magazine, one battle axe, one crowbar, one cross-body bag, one school bag, three small phones, two Android phones, a wallet containing a Union Bank ATM card, $19 in U.S. dollars, and 30,650.00 Naira.”

The suspects are currently in custody for interrogation and further investigation.
