The Delta State Government affirmed its commitment to supporting flood victims throughout the state as rising water levels pose a threat to coastal communities.

During a televised discussion in Asaba, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Festus Ahon, assured residents that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is dedicated to safeguarding and providing for all citizens, in alignment with his administration’s M.O.R.E Agenda.

Sir Ahon urged individuals residing in flood-prone regions to seek higher ground, emphasizing that the government is making necessary arrangements to accommodate them in nearby Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camps.

He stated, “Following the warning about the impending floods, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori promptly established a comprehensive flood management committee led by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu.

“The committee has actively worked to inform residents in vulnerable areas about the need to evacuate to safer locations.

“We are currently setting up camps in Asaba, Kwale, Patani, Ozoro, and Otu-Jeremi to facilitate this process.

“In collaboration with the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), we are visiting coastal communities to educate residents about the approaching flood and encourage them to relocate to the nearest camps.

“Our administration is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents across the state.

“We have made provisions for mattresses, food, electricity, water, and medical assistance for those displaced. We urge them to relocate to the nearest camps.

“Additionally, we are making arrangements to ensure that school-aged children continue their education while in the camps.”
