The Chairman of Ughelli South Local Government Council, Hon. Lucky Avweromre, has paid a condolence visit to Eghereka Primary School in Otor-Ewu following the tragic collapse of a school building that resulted in the death of a pupil.

Reliable sources informed DAILY SHINE that the pupils had sought refuge in an unused classroom to escape the heavy rain after school hours when part of the structure collapsed, leading to one fatality and three injuries.

The deceased pupil has been identified as Ojiyovwe Salvation, while the injured are Precious Francis, Umukoro Ogaga, and Goddowell Francis.

In a prompt response, Hon. Avweromre abandoned his other engagements and rushed to the scene of the tragic incident as soon as he received the news, conducting an on-the-spot assessment of the situation.

During his visit, Avweromre spoke with the school’s Headmaster, Mr. Adaboke Emmanuel, and expressed his heartfelt condolences.

He directed the councilor representing Ewu Ward One, Hon. Philip Akpos, to ensure that the deceased is placed in the mortuary and ordered the immediate demolition of the dilapidated classroom block to prevent future incidents.

Avweromre also visited the family of the deceased to offer his condolences, expressing his hope that God would grant them the strength to cope with their loss.

He assured the family that the government would take all necessary measures to address the situation and instructed the nurse to contact him through Hon. Akpos for any support needed to ensure that the injured pupils receive proper medical care.
