The Rivers State Police Command has taken control of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) office, effectively sealing the premises in anticipation of the local government elections scheduled for October 5, 2024.
This development comes in response to a recent injunction from the Federal High Court, which has mandated the suspension of all electoral activities within the state.
The court’s decision further prohibits security agencies from participating in any capacity during the election.
Photographs from the scene depict a significant police presence around the RSIEC offices, with officers ensuring that no activities take place on the premises.
