Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has called on Nigerians to remain hopeful and resilient in the face of the country’s current economic difficulties.

Speaking during an inter-denominational thanksgiving service at the Cathedral Church of Saint Peters in Asaba, which marked Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary, the Governor stressed that while the nation is grappling with significant challenges, difficult times will ultimately pass.

Governor Oborevwori expressed gratitude to the founders of the nation and urged citizens to stay united and optimistic, highlighting that a future filled with prosperity, peace, and progress awaits Nigeria.

He acknowledged the prevalent hunger and despair driven by inflation but reassured the public that “every problem has an expiration date.”

He remarked, “I urge Deltans and all residents not to lose hope. Tough times may never last, but resilient individuals will endure. We must embrace creativity, innovation, and patience to navigate this tumultuous economic landscape successfully.”

Additionally, the Governor emphasized the importance of prayer and positive discourse about Nigeria, encouraging citizens to focus on uplifting rather than negative narratives about the country.

“Our words have power; they can either uplift or hinder our prayers for peace and development,” he stated.

Addressing recent comments from the Bishop regarding project quality in the state, Governor Oborevwori affirmed his commitment to high standards.

“We will not accept subpar work; we owe it to the people of Delta State to deliver quality,” he asserted.

Furthermore, he shared his plans to enhance accountability among civil servants and contractors, urging oversight from House of Assembly members.

“I am also implementing a system to ensure workers receive their salaries promptly,” he added.

In his sermon, Rt. Rev’d Kingsley Obuh, the Bishop of Asaba, emphasized the importance of gratitude, urging Nigerians to maintain faith and thanksgiving despite the difficulties.

He reminded attendees that expressing thanks is a divine expectation, even in challenging times.
