The Delta State Police Command has apprehended a 50-year-old man, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, following allegations of sexually defiling a four-year-old girl in Ubulu-Uku, located in the Aniocha South Local Government Area of the state.
According to reports, the incident took place on Thursday when the child was sent to her grandmother’s house by her mother.
Human rights activist Mr. Harrison Gwamnishu confirmed that the suspect was taken into custody on Friday.
“Upon receiving a report of the assault on the four-year-old, we acted swiftly,” Gwamnishu stated.
“We first transported the child to a government hospital for examination, where medical professionals confirmed signs of trauma consistent with penetration. Afterward, we located and arrested the suspect, allowing the girl to identify him as the victim.”
Gwamnishu added, “The suspect has been handed over to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Ogwashi Uku, where he is currently detained.
He will be transferred to the State Police headquarters once preliminary investigations are completed.”
In a video shared by Gwamnishu, the child’s mother recounted her experience, stating, “I had gone to church for a fasting and prayer session and instructed my daughter to visit her grandmother after school.
When I returned, I checked in on her. She told me something was wrong, saying, ‘My bum is hurting.’”
The child’s mother expressed her anguish, stating, “I was devastated but hesitant to confront him directly. Instead, I vented my frustration and then reported the incident to my uncle the next day.”
Following her uncle’s advice, she approached the police in Ubulu-Uku. “They instructed me to take my daughter to the hospital for a medical examination, where it was confirmed that there was penetration on virginia”.
On Saturday, Police Public Relations Officer SP Edafe Bright confirmed the details of the case and the suspect’s arrest. “Yes, the situation has been confirmed,” he stated.
She continued, “I looked to see what was wrong and noticed signs of sexual assault. When I asked her who had harmed her, she described a neighbor with an injury on his leg.”
