The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has stated that the triumph of Delta State at the National Youth Games highlights the state government’s commitment to youth development and sports infrastructure.

Guwor, who made this known in a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Nkem Nwaeke, extended his heartfelt congratulations to both the state government and the citizens for Team Delta’s impressive performance in the 8th National Youth Games, held in Asaba, the state capital.

The Speaker, in the statement, specifically acknowledged Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the Delta State delegation for their exceptional achievements in this year’s event.

Rt. Hon Guwor noted that Delta’s leading position in the medal tally, with 46 gold, 31 silver, and 34 bronze medals—culminating in a total of 111—underscores the state’s prowess in sports development. He expressed pride in Delta’s ability to secure victory in the Youth Games for seven consecutive years.

“I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to our talented youths for being crowned overall champions at the 8th National Youth Games! Your commitment, determination, and teamwork have truly made Delta State proud,” Guwor remarked.

“This success stands as a clear reflection of our strategic investments in youth development and sports infrastructure. I encourage you to keep striving for excellence, as this is just the beginning of even greater achievements ahead!” he added.

The Speaker urged all citizens to celebrate this remarkable milestone, stating, “Our combined efforts have brought about these outstanding results. This victory is a testament to our dedication to empowering our youth and fostering socio-economic progress.”

As Delta basks in its recent success, he emphasized the ongoing need to support young athletes and create an environment that nurtures their growth and potential.

Rt Hon Guwor also commended the resilience displayed by athletes from other states in their pursuit for medals, highlighting their sportsmanship and camaraderie as vital components of nation-building and progress.

“To my fellow states across Nigeria that participated in the games, I express my gratitude for your spirit of sportsmanship. Your involvement greatly contributed to the event’s success,” he said.

“May this experience encourage you to keep cultivating young talent, as we continue to unite through friendly competition,” he added.

Guwor concluded by thanking the organizers for selecting Delta State to host the 8th National Youth Games.

“To our esteemed guests, thank you for choosing Delta State as your venue for this year’s National Youth Games. We hope you enjoyed our hospitality and experienced the essence of our state.
