On Tuesday, Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to easing the economic challenges facing residents.
Speaking at the launch of the fourth phase of the Delta State Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus (D-CARES) at the Events Centre in Asaba, he announced that 97,365 individuals would benefit from this initiative, bringing the total number of beneficiaries to over 208,000 since its inception.
Governor Oborevwori emphasized that the D-CARES initiative aligns with his administration’s vision of inclusion under the “Opportunities for All” policy within the MORE Agenda.
“This fourth disbursement represents a crucial step in our ongoing mission to empower the people economically and enhance their quality of life,” he stated.
“Our goal is to provide every Deltan, irrespective of their background or political affiliation, with opportunities to grow their businesses, improve their economic standing, and contribute meaningfully to the state’s development.”
The Governor remarked, “We are dedicated to ensuring that no Delta resident has to endure unnecessary hardship. As your governor, I will work tirelessly to support all Deltans, without bias.”
He continued, “Today’s launch of the D-CARES fourth phase is not merely a continuation but a testament to our commitment to fostering a community where every citizen feels valued.”
Oborevwori highlighted the impact of the D-CARES Programme, noting its role in transforming lives and providing essential support to households and small enterprises. “The stories of resilience we hear inspire our efforts,” he said.
“This fourth phase signifies more than just numbers; it represents families and communities. We are making a tangible difference through grants to small businesses and aid to the most vulnerable members of our society.
“Our hope is that these initiatives will foster significant developmental progress across Delta State.”
He urged beneficiaries to leverage the resources they receive: “I encourage you to invest wisely, grow your enterprises, and uplift those around you. Together, we are advancing Delta State towards a brighter future.”
Governor Oborevwori also announced that the Ministries of Youth Development and Science and Technology would introduce further empowerment programs before the end of the year.
Mr. Sonny Ekedayen, Commissioner for Economic Planning and Chair of the State CARES Steering Committee, praised Governor Oborevwori for significantly increasing the number of beneficiaries.
He shared details of the outreach: “Under various platforms, we have seen 97,365 Deltans receive support, including 9,845 from the State Cash Transfer Unit and 10,000 from the Labour Intensive Public Workfare Unit, among others.”
In her remarks, Hon. Bridget Anyafulu, representing Oshimili South in the State House of Assembly, commended the governor for expanding the program from 36,353 to a remarkable 208,209 beneficiaries within a year.
She emphasized the program’s vital role in supporting economically disadvantaged populations and encouraged recipients to maximize the opportunities provided.
