Dr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, Delta State’s Director General of the Orientation and Communications Bureau, has called on Senator Ned Nwoko to collaborate with the Federal Government and relevant agencies to expedite the completion of the Okpai Power Plant.

He emphasized that the Delta State government does not have direct control over the project.

Oghenesivbe’s remarks come in response to Senator Nwoko’s criticism of Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori regarding the power plant’s completion.

While praising the senator’s enthusiasm for the project, Oghenesivbe clarified the roles of the various stakeholders involved.

“The Okpai Power Plant is a joint venture involving the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC), and other multinational entities. Given the federal government’s significant stake, it remains a national asset rather than a state initiative,” he explained.

He defended Governor Oborevwori’s leadership, stating that the governor’s success in managing state resources does not require validation from Senator Nwoko.

“His leadership has consistently reflected equity and wisdom across the state’s three senatorial districts,” Oghenesivbe added.

Touching on the economic importance of the Warri Stadium project, he noted that its transformation into a world-class facility would create jobs and opportunities for youth.

He stressed that Senator Nwoko does not possess the authority to dictate governance matters to the governor.

“In response to Nwoko’s criticisms, it’s important to remember that constructive dialogue should be respectful and devoid of derogatory remarks. His recent statements do not reflect the views of Delta North residents,” Oghenesivbe asserted.

He pointed out that while Senator Nwoko has been vocal now, he was notably silent during the previous administration.

Oghenesivbe stated that development initiatives should encompass all districts, emphasizing the necessity of equitable developmental focus rather than prioritizing one over another.

“The Okpai Power Plant’s completion is primarily the federal government’s responsibility, and involving the Delta State Government in that process might lead to confusion and inefficiencies,” he cautioned.

He urged Senator Nwoko to use his position to facilitate communication among the federal stakeholders, thereby resolving any existing issues affecting the project’s timeline.

Oghenesivbe reinforced that ongoing investigations by the House of Representatives regarding the project’s abandonment should unite efforts towards resolution rather than creating unnecessary discord.

He highlighted the potential benefits of a cooperative approach for the people of Delta State and Nigeria.

In conclusion, he advised Senator Nwoko to return his focus to legislative duties, emphasizing the importance of unity and respect within the political discourse.

“Governor Oborevwori is fulfilling his mandate, and interventions from Senator Nwoko should aim to enhance, not disrupt, the governance process,” Oghenesivbe remarked.
