Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, stated on Tuesday that the Trans-Warri road and associated bridges would be finished within a two-year timeframe.
He further emphasized that site engineers supervising projects for the state government would be held accountable for any shoddy work under their supervision.
Governor Oborevwori issued this warning while inspecting the progress of the Trans-Warri Road and bridges in Warri South Local Government Area.
He urged the contractor to prioritize and expedite the completion of the project and assured them of consistent funding to ensure prompt completion within two years.
The Governor explained, “I have a policy that I must personally inspect any completed project before its inauguration.
During my recent inspection of a project, there “were issues that emerged. This should serve as a warning to all site engineers who compromise their duties.
“Any engineer found compromising will face legal consequences as there are specific procedures for certifying completed projects.
“We have assured the people of Delta State that we will not accept substandard work, and we will ensure that projects are executed to the highest standards.”
Governor Oborevwori praised the progress made on the Trans-Warri road and bridges, a project that has been ongoing for the past 17 years.
He inquired about the estimated completion time and was informed by the project manager that it would be completed within 18 months.
With this assurance, the Governor confidently stated that the project would be inaugurated within the next two years.
Regarding funding, Governor Oborevwori assured the contractor that as long as they fulfill their obligations, funding would not be an issue.
He stressed the importance of avoiding delays and ensuring timely completion, as the project has already faced significant delays.
The Governor expressed his intention to ascertain the quality of work being done in relation to the funds allocated.
Additionally, Governor Oborevwori visited the Olu of Warri Palace in Ode-Itsekiri to reassure the Itsekiri monarch that the project would be completed and inaugurated during his 5th coronation anniversary.
Comrade Reuben Izeze, the Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), provided background information on the project, stating that it was awarded in 2006 and has progressed under different administrations.
The Commissioner confirmed that 19 bridges along the main alignment have been completed.
The Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, commended Governor Oborevwori and his predecessors for their sustained efforts in executing the project and expressed gratitude for the progress made thus far.
He pledged support to ensure the project’s successful completion and eagerly anticipated its inauguration during the 5th anniversary celebrations.
In a related development, Governor Oborevwori also inspected the ongoing construction of Omadino Technical College and held a meeting with the contractors to discuss the way forward for the swift completion of the project.
