The Governor of Delta State, the Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, expressed his commitment to creating a lasting impact for future generations rather than seeking to please individuals during a meeting on Wednesday.
Governor Oborevwori made these remarks while welcoming the President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Bishop Wale Oke, and his delegation at the Government House in Asaba.
Highlighting the achievements of his administration in infrastructure and human capital development throughout the state, Governor Oborevwori affirmed his dedication to further progress and development in Delta State.
“I aspire to undertake initiatives that will be remembered long after I leave office, not to win favor with people, but to fulfill my duty towards God,” he stated.
During the meeting, Governor Oborevwori reflected on the peaceful nature of Delta State during recent protests, attributing the calm atmosphere to prayer and emphasizing the importance of seeking divine intervention for lasting peace and development.
He commended Bishop Wale Oke and the PFN for their prayers and support during his election, acknowledging the vital role of faith communities in fostering peace and progress in the state.
Acknowledging Bishop Wale Oke’s influential role as a spiritual leader, Governor Oborevwori expressed gratitude for the prayers offered by the PFN President, underscoring the significance of continued guidance and support through prayer for leaders in positions of authority.
“Your presence today is a great blessing to the Christian community in Delta State. You supported me with your prayers during my aspirations, and the PFN in Delta State also stood firmly by my side. Though it was a challenging period, the will of God, as I had fervently requested, ultimately prevailed.
“When it was announced that I had won in 21 out of the 25 Local Government Areas, the challenges did not stop there. We faced a total of 38 court cases, but by the grace of God, we overcame.
“Thus, as you gather here once more, we humbly ask for your prayers to combat insecurity, to foster progress, and most importantly, to secure peace and stability for our state and nation,” he emphasized.
Earlier, the PFN National President, Bishop Wale Oke, conveyed to the governor that their presence at the Government House was to honor him in accordance with Biblical teachings.
Bishop Wale commended the developmental achievements of Governor Oborevwori’s administration in the state.
He mentioned that their visit to the state was for the dedication of the State PFN secretariat, where prayers would be offered for the continual peace and progress of the state.
Highlighting that the Delta PFN secretariat marked the largest in the country, he expressed gratitude to the state government for its support in making it a reality. He particularly praised the governor for his significant contributions.
