Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has received praise from the Nigerian Baptist Convention for his significant strides in infrastructure and human capital development across the state since taking office on May 29th, 2023.
During a visit to Government House, Asaba, Dr. Soye Asawo, the National President of the Men’s Missionary Union (MMU) of the Nigeria Baptist Convention, commended Governor Oborevwori for his remarkable achievements.
Dr. Asawo highlighted the Governor’s strong Christian faith and dedication to public service, acknowledging the positive impact of the developmental projects implemented in Delta State within just over a year of assuming office.
The focus on critical infrastructure projects, particularly in road development, including essential flyover constructions in Warri and Effurun, notably at the busy PTI Junction, reflects Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to enhancing the lives of both residents and visitors in the state.
These initiatives, undertaken by reputable construction firms, are set to benefit not only Delta State citizens but also millions of Nigerians who travel through these routes annually.
Dr. Asawo noted the ongoing projects and initiatives in various sectors such as education, healthcare, and human capacity development, highlighting the Governor’s comprehensive approach to driving progress across multiple fronts simultaneously.
The Baptist Convention’s annual gathering in Asaba, Delta State, themed “Wonders without Numbers” (Job 9:10), underscores the belief in God’s extraordinary power to accomplish the impossible in the lives of His people.
In the address, it was disclosed that Delta had last hosted the Convention in 2011 in Sapele.
It was mentioned that Asaba was selected as the venue for this year’s Convention due to its tranquil and peaceful setting, excellent accessibility by air and road, superior physical infrastructure capable of accommodating large gatherings, a good network of roads, quality hotels, a world-class venue at the CAN Christian Centre, and the warm hospitality of the local populace.
Quoting from the book of Esther, chapter 4, verses 13-15, Dr. Asawo emphasized the importance of leaders ensuring the welfare of their citizens during challenging times.
He stated that their visit would not be complete without urging leaders, including the Governor, to fulfill their responsibilities towards the welfare of the people based on scriptural teachings.
In response, Governor Oborevwori praised the President of MMU for selecting Asaba as the venue for the 44th Convention, highlighting that Delta is known for being a state of peace and prayer.
He expressed delight at the positive remarks about the serene atmosphere, venue accessibility, and transportation options in the region.
Governor Oborevwori also mentioned that the state government annually observes a Praise and Prayer Day on May 29th as a tribute to God.
He emphasized the state’s commitment to maintaining peace and continuing to serve the people of Delta, acknowledging the support and prayers of religious leaders in their efforts to succeed.
We have also implemented palliative measures and intend to further alleviate the effects of the challenges faced in the country.
It is not solely the responsibility of the presidency; both they and we are making concerted efforts to address these issues.
As a state that values prayer, we are committed to ensuring and maintaining peace within our region.
We humbly ask for your continued prayers, as we believe that it is through these prayers that we can achieve success.
I express my gratitude to the President of the Men’s Union Convention for selecting Delta State as the location for the upcoming convention.
This event will provide individuals who have not yet visited the state with the opportunity to familiarize themselves with Delta State.
