A legendary figure in Nigerian music and acting, Onyeka Onwenu, has reportedly passed away at the age of 72.
Reports indicate that she tragically passed away on Tuesday night at the Reddington Hospital in Lagos after collapsing at the birthday celebration of Mrs. Stella Okoli.
An eyewitness present at the event, who his name mentioned, confirmed the heartbreaking news.
“It is truly a somber moment. Onyeka Onwenu had just delivered a performance at Mrs. Stella Okoli’s birthday celebration today (Tuesday, July 30, 2024), and shortly after, she collapsed. She was rushed to Reddington Hospital, but unfortunately, she did not make it,” the eyewitness shared.
At the time of this report, the family of the deceased has not made an official announcement regarding her passing.
Onwenu will be fondly remembered for her iconic music albums such as “In The Morning Light” and “Dancing In The Sun.” Additionally, she made notable appearances in films like “Half of a Yellow Sun” and “Lion’s Heart,” leaving a lasting impact on the entertainment industry.
