Kidnappers Cause Chaos at Asaba Church, Fatally Kill Policeman, Abduct Former House of Reps Member

A disturbing and tragic event unfolded earlier today at the King Jesus Church on DBS Road in Asaba, as kidnappers carried out a violent attack.

The assailants wreaked havoc, resulting in the tragic death of a police officer who was part of the security detail at the church.

According to eyewitnesses, the heavily armed kidnappers stormed the church premises and ruthlessly opened fire on the policemen, claiming the life of one officer instantly.

Subsequently, the attackers abducted Hon. Joan Onyemaechi, a well-known church member and prominent political figure in the state.

Although the motive behind the abduction remains unclear, there are indications that a ransom demand might be involved.

The community has been deeply shaken by the incident, with residents expressing shock and strong condemnation of the perpetrators’ actions.

Law enforcement agencies have initiated an investigation into the matter, actively pursuing the kidnappers in efforts to secure the safe release of the abductee.

In response to the heightened threat, authorities have bolstered security measures in the area to prevent any further attacks.

This disturbing event serves as a poignant reminder of the escalating insecurity in the country, underscoring the imperative for enhanced vigilance and collaborative efforts between law enforcement and the community to combat criminal activities and safeguard the populace.

Confirming the incident, SP Bright Edafe, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Command, disclosed that the Command sadly lost one of its officers during the confrontation.

SP Edafe assured that the Command is diligently pursuing the abductors and pledged to provide additional information on the incident as the investigation progresses.
