In response to allegations linking ‘Big Dafe Hotel’ in Ughelli, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State to human trafficking and child prostitution, the hotel’s owner, Mr. Dafe Kpohraror, unequivocally refuted the claims and urged the public to dismiss the accusations.
Kpohraror, speaking at a press briefing, emphasized that the hotel is a registered entity with the Corporate Affairs Commission, specializing in lodging and accommodation and has maintained a reputable presence in Delta State for numerous years.
Addressing the recent police intervention and the apprehension of guests and lodgers at his establishment, he expressed his dismay, stating that his hotel is not involved in human trafficking or child prostitution.
He recounted, “During a routine inspection at the hotel on Thursday, July 12, 2024, I noticed three unfamiliar individuals on the premises. Upon questioning them and finding their explanations unsatisfactory, I promptly instructed my security personnel to escort them off the property, which they did without delay.”
“I am appalled to learn that law enforcement officers raided one of my hotels and detained guests and lodgers,” Kpohraror added.
He clarified, “To set the record straight, Big Dafe Hotel is not associated with human trafficking or child prostitution as falsely alleged in some quarters. The establishment is solely recognized for its lodging and accommodation services.”
It is worth noting that on July 15, 2024, Nigerian policemen from the Ekpan and Ebrumede divisions of the Delta State command conducted a raid on the hotel premises, arresting staff, guests, and lodgers on suspicion of human trafficking and child prostitution.
In further discussion, he revealed that, according to all available hotel records, the three teenagers in question were not registered guests at the hotel.
“As a representative of the hotel, we strive to adhere to the rules and regulations governing the operation of the hotel business within the state.
While expressing appreciation for the Delta State Commissioner of Police, Police Aniwonda Olufemi, for his zero-tolerance stance on human trafficking and child prostitution in the state, it is important to clarify that the management of Big Dafe Hotel was unaware of any suspicions regarding Chinyere (surname withheld) involving human trafficking or child prostitution.
Therefore, the hotel management unequivocally distances itself from any activities associated with the individual in question.”
